Symptoms of Uterine Prolapse
Uterine prolapse may be mild with no symptoms or moderate to severe with following symptoms:
Laparoscopic Uterine Prolapse Repair
In cases of mild uterine prolapse, treatment is generally not required. But if the condition becomes uncomfortable and disrupts the daily activities, treatment is required.
The choice of treatment for uterine prolapse is the laparoscopic uterine suspension. The procedure is performed with an aim to reduce the prolapse and restore as much of normal anatomy as possible.
Laparoscopic Uterine suspension or Hysteropexy
Hysteropexy is performed through keyhole incisions under general anaesthesia. The procedure involves resuspension and uplift of the prolapsed uterus using a strip of synthetic mesh. The mesh is attached to the cervix at one end and to a ligament over the back bone (sacrum) near the spine on the other end. This gently lifts the uterus back up into its normal anatomical position.A vaginal repair is required if the prolapse is affecting front or back of the vagina.
